Day 45: Nashville to... Savannah!

Yesterday was our last day in Nashville. We had a low key day, and it was nice to have nothing on the agenda. However, at 1:45 this morning we boarded a Greyhound to Savannah, Georgia!

As you may recall, Savannah wasn't a part of our original itinerary, so let us explain what's on tap for us. After walking the Natchez Trace and also walking along a couple of state highways, we realized that much of our intended route would include busy, possibly dangerous, and unfulfilling miles on the road. Also, Jen's feet have been slow to recover since finishing the Natchez Trace. As a result we are making changes to our plan that will balance our goals with an overall enjoyable experience. So.... We are heading to Savannah for the weekend and then continuing on to Washington DC. From DC we will continue our journey with a planned hike along the rails to trails pathway into Pittsburgh PA.

Although the idea of walking every mile from point A to B is no doubt the most romantic, it is not always the most practical. After weighing our options and considering how Jen's feet are holding up, our new set of plans will best provide a good and meaningful experience while not compromising our overall happiness.

Finally, in other unrelated news, Chris has decided to attend the University of New Mexico for law school. When we take into consideration the quality of education for an affordable price UNM makes the most sense. Upon the end of this trip we will be relocating to Albuquerque.

Stay tuned for some photos and tales from Savanna. Also, there is a guy on our bus that is traveling with only a plaster bald eagle statue and a bottle of water. Talk about the essentials.
