Day 50: Washington, DC

We've been taking our time here in DC so far. We've each been here several times, but neither of us has really seen the historic sites and museums thoroughly. We have a whole list of things we'd like to see here, and we are gradually checking them off.

Today we did a tour of the Capitol building. There were over 10,000 people signed up for tours today, so it was super crowded! Unfortunately, the tour didn't last nearly as long as we would have liked, but we were able to see a lot of interesting sites within the building. We did go into the rotunda, the ceiling if which is shown in several photos. We tended to take photos of the ceilings instead of the overall rooms - there were just so many people!

After the Capitol tour, we walked through the underground tunnel to the Library of Congress. Again, the architecture was beautiful and the attention to detail was incredible. The photos of the brightly colored ceilings were in the Library of Congress.

Tomorrow's lineup includes the. Arlington Cemetery and one of the museums - perhaps the Air and Space Museum. There is just so much to see that we can hardly decide what to do next... Does anyone who's reading this (IS anyone reading this?!) have a DC favorite, museums or otherwise?

  1. Last year John and I did the Holocaust museum. It was really intense, but I'm glad we saw it... Miss you!

  2. Are you staying with someone in DC, or in a hotel/hostel? I bet the city is packed right now with all the people wanting to see the cherry blossoms. If I remember right, PRISM takes international students down there for that. What's your favorite monuments so far? I loved the Jefferson, Lincoln, and WWII.

  3. The only time I've ever been to DC was with you, Erick, and Chris. So you know everything I know!

  4. The Museum of American History and the Museum of Natural History are my two favorites. Haven't been to the Museum of Native American History and Culture but Daphne says it is the most amazing museum she's ever been to.

  5. I went to the Native American Museum on my post-UCC road trip, and it blew my mind! It had just opened, and all of the exhibits weren't open yet, so it must be even better now! We had lunch there and the food was awesome, it's worth a stroll through the food court just to see what they're cooking up!
